A level is a main school leaving qualification in the UK and international schools in some countries. The test has 2 sessions; in May- June and in October – November.
GCE A Level or General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Levels are the traditional qualifications that are offered by schools and colleges for students aged between 16 and 19. They usually focus on academic subjects, compared to university qualifications. Students can choose to deeply study their interested subjects. GCE A Level is also popular in Thailand especially in international schools. GEC A Levels consist of;
- Advanced Subsidiary Level (AS Level) : for students in Grade 12. The test is not too difficult. You will have to choose 4 subjects. There are Grade A-E. Each subject has 1 unit. When you pass AS Level, you are half way of GCE A Level.
- Advance Levels (A Level) : for student in Grade 13. The test is more challenge than AS Level. Your courses are more intensive. You choose only 3 subjects from 4 subjects in AS Level. There are Grade A-E. Each subject has 2 units.
When you pass both AS Level and A Level, you will complete GCE A Level. You can choose only A Level to complete this GCE A-Level.
In AS Level, Grade A is the highest but in A level you can get Grade A*. However, not only A or A*, you will also need Percentage Uniform Mark (PUM). PUM will described how well you perform in each grade. So, do not ignore this PUM.
GCE A Level has around 50 subjects which you can choose freely such as English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Social Science, Arts, and general education.
In Thailand, some subjects can’t be chosen such as some languages for specific countries. The test center will be informed after your application completed. The test centers can be at Wave Place building or British Council depending on each subject.
