Connectors คืออะไร
Connectors คือ คำเชื่อมในภาษาอังกฤษที่ทำหน้าที่เชื่อมประโยคและคำต่าง ๆ เข้าด้วยกัน โดยส่วนใหญ่คำเชื่อมเหล่านี้จะถูกใช้ในงานเขียนค่อนข้างเยอะเมื่อต้องอธิบายประโยคต่าง ๆ ในบทความหรือเนื้อหาที่ต่อเนื่องกัน
Connectors มีกี่ประเภท
Connector สามารถแบ่งออกตามการใช้งานได้ 4 ประเภท ดังนี้
- คำเชื่อมแบบคล้อยตามหรือสอดคล้องกัน เช่น and, both, but also, not only, as well as
- คำเชื่อมแบบขัดแย้งหรือตรงข้ามกัน เช่น but, however, still, yet
- คำเชื่อมแบบให้ตัวเลือก เช่น or, either…..or…, neither….nor…, otherwise

Connectors ใช้ยังไง
1. คำเชื่อมแบบคล้อยตามหรือสอดคล้องกัน เช่น
Ammy can speak both English and Chinese.
Jim and Tom play football.
Pim can speak both English and Japanese.
He is a good swimmer and also plays tennis well.
2. คำเชื่อมแบบขัดแย้งหรือตรงข้ามกัน เช่น
He is poor, but he is happy.
I like listening to music; however, I don’t like going to concerts.
I love you, yet, I can’t marry you.
Although Justin was unhappy, he still smiled.
3. คำเชื่อมแบบให้ตัวเลือก เช่น
Do you like coffee or tea?
Hurry up, otherwise you will be late for lunch.
You can use either a pen or a pencil.
I can neither dance nor sing.
4. คำเชื่อมที่แสดงให้เห็นถึงความเป็นเหตุเป็นผลกัน เช่น
I came here because I wanted to see him.
She didn’t study, therefore she couldn’t pass the exam.
Is was cold, so I closed the window.
Since she was ill, she didn’t come.

สำหรับ Connectors กับ Conjunction ถือว่ามีความใกล้เคียงกันมาก เพราะโดยหลักทั่วไปจะเอาไว้เชื่อมกับคำ วลี หรือประโยคให้มีความสมบูรณ์มากขึ้น อาจมีเพียงรายละเอียดเล็ก ๆ น้อย ๆ แต่จะเลือกใช้แบบไหนก็ขึ้นอยู่กับความเหมาะสม
