ตัวอย่าง ข้อสอบ CU-TEP เรื่อง Past Participle
รูปของ Past Participle คือ กริยาช่องที่ 3 คือ V. ที่เติม –ed เช่น walked, played, opened, closed หรือ V. ที่ผันเป็นช่องที่ 3 เช่น eaten, come, read, seen ค่ะ ซึ่งการใช้ Past Participle ก็จะล้อๆ กันไปกับการใช้ Present Participle โดยลักษณะของเจ้า Past Participle มีดังนี้
1. เมื่ออยู่หลัง V. to have จะทำให้ประโยคกลายเป็น Perfect Tense
I have lived here in Bangkok since 1987. ( Present Perfect Tense)
Henry had finished his breakfast before he left home. (Past Perfect Tense)
2. เมื่ออยู่หลัง V. to be จะทำให้ประโยคกลายเป็น Passive voice
Poon was punished by her teacher.
The event was held at Oriental residence.
3. ใช้เป็น Adj. ประกอบหน้า Noun.
I saw the stolen bicycle in front of the supermarket last night.
My dad just bought the used car.
4. ใช้เป็น Compound Adj. แล้วไปประกอบกับ Noun ตัวอื่น
โครงสร้างเป็นดังนี้ Adverb + Past Participle + Noun
A well – built house
A well – done steak
A frequently – used idiom
5. รูปมาจาก Noun และเติม – ed และทำหน้าที่เป็น Adj. ขยาย Noun อื่น
โครงสร้างเป็นดังนี้ Adj + Noun (เติม -ed) + Noun
A blue eyed man
A bad tempered boss
A red haired girl
6. ใช้เรียงหลัง Noun โดยมี Prepositional phrase มาขยายต่อหลังเสมอ
The man punched by the beggar was sent to the hospital.
The student punished by her professor is very lazy.
7. ใช้วางต้นประโยคโดยมี Prepositional phrase มาต่อหลังเสมอ
Punched by the beggar, he was sent to the hospital.
Punished by her professor, the student tries to behave better.
ตัวอย่าง ข้อสอบ CU-TEP เรื่อง past participle
1. Louisa May Alcott is chiefly remembered(1) for Little Women, one(2) of the most popular(3) girls books ever wrote(4) .
คำตอบ คือ ข้อ 4
“Louisa May Alcott เป็นที่จดจำอย่างมากสำหรับหนังสือชื่อ Little Women หนึ่งในหนังสือผู้หญิงที่มีชื่อเสียงมากที่เคยถูกเขียนขึ้น”
ข้อ 4 เพราะว่า โครงสร้างหลัง (,) comma ไม่ใช่ประโยคเป็นเพียงกลุ่มคำนาม / วลี ขยายความประโยคข้างหน้า จึงจะมี V2 ไม่ได้ เพราะฉะนั้น คำว่า wrote จึงควรแก้เป้น written (V3) เป็น Past Participle ขยายความ ว่าหนังสือถูกเขียนขึ้นค่ะ
2. In this changing(1) business environment, different(2) demands are placing(3) on(4) employees .
คำตอบ คือ ข้อ 3
“ในการเปลี่ยนแปลงสภาพแวดล้อมทางธุรกิจ ความต้องการที่แตกต่างกันนั้นถูกบอกไว้กับพนักงานทุกคน”
ข้อนี้หากมองผิวเผินไม่ดูเรื่องความหมาย เราจะหาที่ผิดไม่เจอค่ะ แต่ถ้าลองแปลดูแลแล้ว ความหมายต้องการ passive ค่ะ ว่า different damands ถูกกระทำ ไม่สามารถกระทำเองได้ ดังนั้นเราจะต้องทำให้ประโยคนี้เป็น Passive โดยเปลี่ยน placing เป็น being placed ค่ะ
3. Quartz can easily(1) be recognized(2) because it(3) resembles pieces of broke(4) glass .
คำตอบ คือ ข้อ 4
“แร่ควอซนั้นเป็นที่สังเกตได้ง่ายเพราะว่ามันมีลักษณะคล้ายกับเศษแก้วที่แตก”
คำว่า broke ในข้อนี้ไม่ได้ทำหน้าที่เป็น V จึงจะอยู่ในรูป V2 ไม่ได้ เพราะมันเป็น Adj ขยาย glass ฉะนั้นคำว่า broke จะต้องเปลี่ยนเป็น broken ให้เป็น Part Participle ขยาย glass ค่ะ
