TOEFL is an American Standard English examination. The test is used for applying further study or apply for a job where the English test is required. The test is valid for 2 years after the test date.
There are 3 types of TOEFL Test
- Paper-based Testing : PBT (Test Takers doing the test with paper)
- Computer-based Testing : CBT ( Test takers doing the test with computer)
- Internet-based Testing :iBT (Test Takers doing the test via internet system which is popular right now)
The Internet-based Testing consists of 4 parts: Reading, Writing, Listening Speaking. (The other 2 tests only have Reading, Writing, and Listening.) It measures the ability and skill of non-native speakers to use and understand English language. So, concentration is required when doing the test.

In the second 2 tasks, you will read a short article about some issues and will listen to the conversation regarding this article. You will have 30 seconds for preparation and 60 seconds for speaking. In the last 2 tasks, you will receive information, conversation or analysis about academic issues. You will analyze and speak about those data. You will have 20 seconds for preparation and 60 seconds for speaking. |

4 | Writing | 1 integrated task 1 independent task The writing consists of 2 tasks. The first integrated task consists of conversation together with an essay referring to that conversation. You will have about 20 minutes in this part. In the independent task, test takers will receive a short essay and will have to logically write and analyze this essay. The TOEFL test is a kind of American Standard Test so it is quite different from general English test in Thailand. It is important to be familiar with the test. You can buy any preparation books or find some old tests to practice by yourself. To practice many tests will help you improve your efficiency when doing the real test. You can also take TOEFL class at many tutorial school to boost up your knowledge. Moreover, you should concern your time while practicing as it can help you evaluate your ability.
Education Testing Service or ETS is an organization who is responsible for the TOEFL test. Applicants can make a phone call to request information or register for the test. Also, applicants can register online via www.ets.org/toefl/. The cost is approximately 6,000 THB. You can transfer money via online banking system or credit card.
The 5 copies test score will be sent to the applicants; the first one is for the applicants, the other 4 copies are formal reports and applicants can choose which universities or institution these reports should be sent to. The delivery period is about 15 days after the test date.
Applicants must follow these conditions in order to get the formal reports
- Answer at least 1 question in the reading part
- Answer at least 1 question in the listening part
- Writing at least 1 essay in the writing part
- Speaking at least 1 topic in the speaking part
The writing and speaking part can be rescored with in each part.

Can I cancel TOEFL test ?
You can cancel your registration for the TOEFL test within four full days prior to your test date. You will be refunded half the original test fee paid. Refunds are in U.S. dollars. To cancel and receive a refund, you can go to the official TOEFL website and follow the refund procedures under the TOEFL Registration Bulletin.
Can I do the TOEFL test online ?
Yes, you can. The online test is called the TOEFL iBT which stands for the TOEFL internet-based test. The TOEFL iBT test taken on the computer measures your proficiency in the English language in four skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing skills. It is the most popular version of the TOEFL test.
Can I prepare for the TOEFL at home ?
Yes, you can. You can prepare for the TOEFL test anywhere anytime at your own convenience. It can take place as long as you have practice materials that you need. However, you have to use 100% American spelling, or 100% British spelling. If you mix both of them, you can be penalised for using two forms of English.
Can SAT replace TOEFL ?
Because SAT Critical Reading requires a strong understanding of vocabulary and reading comprehension, it could replace the TOEFL as a demonstration of English language skills. Some universities do not require their students to take the TOEFL if they achieved a particular score on SAT Critical Reading. You should directly ascertain this with the university admission criteria.
Can we get scholarship through TOEFL ?
It is possible that the TOEFL test result can help you get a scholarship although not directly. Even if your university does not grant any campus-based TOEFL scholarships, there are a number of international scholarship funds that consider your TOEFL score when you apply for rewards.
Can we give TOEFL twice ?

Do you get your TOEFL scores immediately ?
The TOEFL scores will be posted online approximately 6 days after you take the test. You can go to your ETS account to view your scores. You can also download and print a copy of your score report although it is available within 8 days after your test dates. In addition, your scores are also sent to the institutions you selected and to you, if you requested a paper copy before you took the test, within 11 days after you take the test.
